Soda – Definitely not. Soda is full of sugar and a lot of ingredients you can’t even pronounce. If you’re addicted to fizzy drinks, this is one of the first things you want to give up on any weight loss plan.

Diet soda – No. Studies show it does not aid with weight loss and it has some questionable ingredients. Like regular soda, it’s also full of things you can’t pronounce and many of these ingredients have been linked to cancer. Why take the risk?

Fruit juice – Once in a while. Okay, you can have pure fruit juice once in a while, but it’s really better to have real whole fruit instead. However, you can puree fresh fruits into your own smoothie. If it’s a little thick, you can add water until it reaches the desired consistency.

Smoothies – Yes, but you want to make these at home, like mentioned above. You can use fruits and vegetables, just be sure to not add any artificial sweeteners or other ingredients that aren’t good for you. Many shop bought smoothies contain extra sugar, so check out the labels.

If you feel it needs to be a little bit sweeter, you can add a touch of pure honey. Be sure the honey is harvested locally, though. It’s a known fact that many honey producers are using corn syrup added to their honey so they can get more money and use less real honey. Even if the label claims it’s pure honey, it may not be. Always go to your local farmer’s market and get honey from someone who harvests their own honey in your area.

Tea and coffee – Yes, you can have both of these, in moderation, as long as you don’t add anything to them. Yes, that means black coffee and straight tea.

The bottom line is, water is your best source of hydration and it has zero calories. Be sure to add more water to your diet. It’s not only good for you, it can actually help aid you with weight loss too.
