Let’s face it, temptation is all around us in the form of dessert menus, take-away adverts, or maybe your weight gain is even down to a recent relationship break-up, having a baby, or a whole host of other reasons, the fact that you’re here now, means that you are ready to change your lifestyle for the better !

So, let’s take a look at some of the common causes why most people give up on their weight loss goals and what you can do to help keep you on track …

It Seems To Be Taking Forever

As those extra pounds sneak on, it can also seem like an eternity in getting rid of them. Getting your head around this fact will make it easier for you to stick with your plan.

Safe and consistent weight loss means you should be looking to lose between one and two pounds per week. So by looking at where you are now and where you want to realistically be, will give you an idea of how long it will likely take to reach your ideal weight goal.

Reward yourself with some new slender looking clothes, at smaller goal stages along the way. This will help you keep on track and show that you ARE making great progress in the right direction.

I’m Hank Marvin (Starving)

When it comes down to losing weight, it all comes down to the calculations … Calories taken in, cannot exceed the amount of calories out.

By choosing high calorie foods, means you shouldn’t be having as much of it. I’m not one of those people that says you shouldn’t eat your favourite foods, because I believe that this sometimes detracts as well (especially since I’ve got such a sweet tooth), but anything in moderation is OK.

As long as you are aware of the calorie intake and keep it in line with everything else you eat during that particular day, then enjoy what you eat.

While sugary foods are never really any good for those of us looking to weight, by eating smarter and eating low-calorie foods such as vegetables, high fibre foods like whole grains and high water content foods such as fruit, will all help to keep you fuller for longer and prevent those dreaded hunger pangs.

I’m Craving My Favourite Foods

It can be difficult to not thinking about our favourite take away food, or ice-cream and all the other things we shouldn’t eat. At the end of the day (sorry to be the bearer of bad news), is that diets plain and simple do not work.

Trying to sustain a diet on an eating plan that’s too restrictive, simply isn’t going to work. However, by eating healthily for the majority of the time and allowing yourself little splurges every now and again, will help you from those feelings of being deprived and keep you heading towards your goals for a healthier lifestyle.
Exercising Is Not My Thing

Let’s face it, the word exercise can alone bring us out in a sea of sweat. Exercise of course comes in many forms (unfortunately sitting on the sofa isn’t one of them) and if pounding the treadmill isn’t your thing, try giving a gentle stroll a try.

Walking is less impact on the joints, you are still out in the fresh air and a good walk for 20-30 minutes a day will give you a great energy boost, as well as help burn some extra calories too.

Nothing Is Working For Me

So you’re doing everything you’re supposed to be doing. You are eating right and doing some form of exercising and the scales simply aren’t budging. It can be very frustrating and may make you feel like giving up.

There could be a number of reasons that those scales aren’t budging and that could be down to not doing enough exercise, eating high calorie healthy foods of just miscalculating your calorie intake.

Getting yourself a nutritionist, finding a personal trainer or maybe even signing up for a weight loss program that offers support, can often be enough to kick start you in the right direction again.

These professionals can often help you uncover mistakes you may not know you are making and rather than sabotaging your goals completely, will help get you back on track with your weight loss goals
